Competitive play
Pickleball Rating System
Pickleball uses several rating systems to group players by skill for competitive play. DUPR is the most widely adopted. Understanding your rating, and what it takes to improve it, gives you a clear development target and helps you find well-matched games.
Rating systems compared

|---|---|---|---|
| DUPR | 2.0–8.0 | After every match entered | Most recreational and tournament players |
| UTPR | 1.0–6.0+ | After sanctioned tournaments | Players competing at USAP tournaments |
| Self-rating | 2.0–5.0 (standard) | Self-assessed | Beginners before getting official rating |

Frequently asked questions
What is DUPR in pickleball?
DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) is the most widely adopted rating system in pickleball. Ratings range from 2.000 to 8.000 and update dynamically after every match entered. DUPR accounts for match results regardless of venue, format (singles/doubles), or skill level of opponents. Scores are entered into the DUPR app by players or tournament directors. DUPR is accepted at most major tournaments and is the standard for competitive play.
What is the difference between DUPR and UTPR?
DUPR and UTPR are both pickleball rating systems but differ in scope and calculation. UTPR (USA Pickleball Tournament Player Rating) only counts USA Pickleball sanctioned tournament results, it doesn't include recreational or app-entered matches. DUPR counts any match entered in the app, from casual games to professional tournaments. Most recreational and club players use DUPR because it updates faster and includes more play types. Competitive tournament players often have both.
